Blog #1: Research Topic Idea

For my final paper, I was hoping to research mental health in college. There are many ways and topics the paper could include. Some of the topics I am hoping to focus on are the ways mental health affects your academics, mental health centers on different campuses, and how mental health issues have becoming rising.

Another topic I was considering looking at was being a first-generation college student. It is interesting to see the different resources they have and how they compare to their peers.

  1. The first-generation issue is very interesting.

Rutgers offers support for first generation college students, and so you could discuss these programs as part of your project:

And there is a lot of research on the topic.

The mental health and anxiety issue is also a very important one. There has definitely been a huge increase in students seeking mental health and stress support on campus, and it is straining these programs throughout the country. And several students have written on this topic over the years:

My sister-in-law is a college psychiatrist, and she reports that there has been a tremendous increase in demand for mental health support on campus, which schools cannot afford to address. I'd like to know more about why it is so much on the rise, and what can be done about it.
